A string of crude bomb blasts, which police say grew out of a turf dispute, has injured two people in Chapainawabganj's Sadar Upazila.
The blasts struck Sheikhpara and Kabirajpara in Moharajpur Union on Friday morning, with 11 undetonated bombs recovered from the scene, Chapainawabganj Superintendent of Police Goutam Kumar Biswas said.
The injured were identified as Md Sumel, 32, and Abdul Hamid, 18, both of whom were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
SP Goutam said tensions had been simmering for days between men loyal to Odud Muhuri and “Jalal Member” in the Sheikhpara and Kabirajpara over local dominance.
The first blast went off in a mango orchard in Sheikhpara around 5:30am, with no casualties reported.
Nearly four hours later, around 9:30am, two crude bombs exploded in Nabab Ali's mango orchard in Kabirajpara, injuring Sumel and Hamid.
Locals rescued the pair and took them to Chapainawabganj's 250-Bed District Hospital, where they received initial treatment before being referred to Rajshahi Hospital.
Acting on the information, police raided the area and seized 11 unexploded crude bombs from Kabirajpara, along with evidence scattered by the blasts, SP Goutam said.
He said the two injured were being treated under police custody, and that police personnel had been deployed at the scene and surrounding areas to bring the situation under control.
Legal action over the incident is under way, the officer added.
