The Supreme Court Reporters Forum (SRF) has grieved the death of bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi.

In a condolence message on Friday, SRF President Md Didarul Alam and General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Dalim recognised his pioneering role in the rise of online and digital journalism in Bangladesh.

“[Khalidi’s] death has left the country without an experienced, gracious and eminent media figure. His contribution to journalism and the media will be remembered for years to come,” they said.

The SRF executive committee prayed for Khalidi’s departed soul and conveyed its condolences to his bereaved family.

Khalidi, who helped take Bangladesh’s news services into the digital era, died at 2:23pm London time on Friday, aged 59.

He was taken to St Bartholomew’s Hospital on Thursday night after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

His family said he had been in London on a personal visit and fell suddenly ill.
