The Online Editors Forum has mourned the death of bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi, hailing him as a trailblazer of online journalism in Bangladesh.

In a condolence message on Friday, forum Convenor Sharifuzzaman Pintu and General Secretary Iftekhar Mahmud described Khalidi as an “experienced, dedicated and visionary” journalist who made significant contributions to the country’s media landscape.

The forum said Khalidi was a prominent figure in journalism and had made notable contributions across print, broadcast and digital media, particularly in politics, economics, development and international affairs.

Under his leadership, bdnews24.com began its journey in a new format in 2006, it added.

The forum credited him with helping advance online journalism in Bangladesh and establish the practice of round-the-clock news publishing.

“He had earlier worked at a broadsheet newspaper in the country and later with the BBC in the UK. Through his long experience and professional skill, he made an important contribution to journalism in Bangladesh,” it said.

The forum said the country’s media community had lost a journalist whose contribution to the development of online journalism would be remembered with respect.

It prayed for the salvation of his soul and expressed sympathy to his bereaved family, relatives, colleagues and numerous well-wishers.
