Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched simultaneous drives across several kitchen markets in the capital to keep egg prices within a reasonable range.
The monitoring took place on Saturday in Fakirapool, Kaptan Bazar, Basabo Bou Bazar and Nawabganj Bazar, among other areas, according to DSCC.
A mobile court headed by Abu Aslam, regional executive officer of Zone Two, operated in Basabo Bou Bazar in Ward No. 4.
Officials checked traders’ retail egg prices and wholesale receipts, warning them against charging excessive prices.
They also filed two cases and collected Tk 15,000 in fines after traders were found occupying footpaths with goods in breach of the law.
On the same day, DSCC Property Officer and Executive Magistrate Hasiba Khan supervised the drive at Fakirapul Bazar, while executive magistrate Aminul Islam led the monitoring at Kaptan Bazar.
They reviewed the egg supply situation and warned traders against creating an artificial shortage.
At Nawabganj Bazar in Ward No. 23 of Zone-3, Regional Executive Officer Akhtar Unnesa Shiuli led the monitoring, while Regional Executive Officer Zainal Molla oversaw the drive at a kitchen market in Ward No. 7 of Zone-5.
