Zafar, who was recently expelled from the HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party, met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office on Saturday evening.
He greeted her with flower as he joined the coalition.
Earlier in the afternoon, he told a meeting of his party’s Presidium at his Gulshan house, “We will join them at 7:30pm. From today, the 18-Party will be a 19-Party alliance.”
Zafar had broken away from Ershad’s Jatiya Party following differences with his former boss over participating in the 10th Parliamentary elections held on Jan 5.
He then formed a new party on Dec 20 last year with some former and current leaders of Ershad’s Jatiya Party. Zafar also named his party as Jatiya Party.
After forming the party, he had extended his support to the 18-Party alliance's movement to foil the general polls.
The BNP-led alliance was formed on Apr 18, 2012, over the movement in demand of a non-party government to oversee the polls.
