West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sent her congratulations to Muhammad Yunus for his appointment as the chief advisor to the new interim government.
In a message posted on her social media account, she said:
“My sincere congratulations and best wishes to Prof Muhammad Yunus and all those who have taken up their duties in Bangladesh. I hope that our relationship with them will improve further.”
Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in the face of a student-led mass movement, an interim government headed by Yunus was sworn in on Thursday.
Yunus's cabinet is composed of 16 advisors, three of whom are yet to be sworn in as they were outside Dhaka during the ceremony.
“I wish for the development, peace, progress, and betterment of Bangladesh for people from all walks of life. My hearty greetings go out to the students, youth, labourers, farmers, and women who live there.”
She said: “Hopefully, the crisis will end soon and peace will return. Let peace return to our world of love. If our neighbouring states do well, we will also do well.”
