Another six people have died from dengue over the past 24 hours.

The latest figures take the dengue death toll this year to 262, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In its bulletin on Sunday, the DGHS said the figures covered the 24 hours to 8am on Saturday.

Hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation recorded 106 new admissions, while 196 patients were admitted in Dhaka South.

A further 514 patients were admitted to hospitals elsewhere in Dhaka Division.

Among other divisions, 203 patients were admitted in Barishal, 324 in Chattogram, 330 in Khulna, 99 in Mymensingh, 224 in Rajshahi, 83 in Rangpur and 10 in Sylhet.

The bulletin said 1,865 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals during the same period.

So far this year, 86,458 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue, while 80,347 have recovered and been discharged.

September recorded the highest monthly number of dengue admissions this year, with 43,774 patients admitted and 148 deaths, according to the health directorate.

The authorities have been recording dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. The highest number of hospital admissions was recorded in 2023, when 321,179 patients were treated for the disease and 1,705 people died.

More than 400 people died of dengue last year, while about 102,000 cases were recorded.
