Spider-Man: Brand New Day, now the highest-grossing movie in North American box office history, is set to return to cinemas with additional footage, Deadline reports.

The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, will include extra scenes featuring Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, according to sources cited by Deadline. Dawson had previously said she filmed a scene for the movie that was later cut.

Deadline said the re-release could contain “more surprises” beyond Dawson’s scenes, although Sony has not yet announced a release date.

The planned re-release follows Disney’s Avengers Endgame: Encore, which earned $86 million worldwide in its return to cinemas last weekend. Deadline noted that the reissue also served as a marketing push for Avengers: Doomsday, due in theatres on Dec 18.

Brand New Day remains in cinemas worldwide and had reached $2.496 billion globally as of Sunday, including $950.7 million in North America, the trade publication said. It has also become Sony’s highest-grossing film, surpassing 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $1.92 billion worldwide.

Deadline said Sony could target a quieter period at the box office for the re-release, potentially using premium large-format screens. The studio previously re-released No Way Home over Labor Day weekend in 2022, when it earned $9.3 million domestically.

Brand New Day currently runs for 2 hours and 25 minutes, while Avengers: Endgame had a 3-hour-1-minute original runtime. Deadline noted that Endgame: Encore included several minutes of bonus footage from Avengers: Doomsday for viewers using Disney’s certified premium large-format format.
