The Rajshahi University administration has announced that it will file a case over an attack on journalists and students on its campus.
Journalists assigned to the university called off a protest around midnight on Sunday after assurances that the case would be filed by Monday.
However, the journalists say they are undeterred from several of their demands, which include calls for the arrest of the perpetrators, their expulsion, and the resignation of relevant administration officials.
RU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Mamunur Rashid condemned Sunday night’s attack, telling the media: “"The way journalists and students of our university have been attacked is highly deplorable.
"In light of the demands from the journalists, a case will be filed over this incident on Monday at the initiative of the hall administration. Other demands will be implemented following due process."
Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal’s central committee has formed two investigation committees to probe the attack.
At least 10 people, including four journalists, were injured in an attack in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall on Sunday night.
The injured journalists are Arif Uz Zaman Korban of bdnews24.com, Daily Agamir Shomoy university correspondent Zahidul Islam, Nur Ahsan Mridul of The Daily Star, and Mainul Islam Raju of Daily Samakal.
They were first taken to the university medical centre. Later, they were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Among them were Chhatra Dal RU branch Vice President M Ahsan Habib, Joint General Secretary Hasibul Islam, Vice-President Shariful Islam, Deputy Office Secretary Shahriar Alam, and Chhatra Dal activist Bishal Chakraborty.
In protest of the attack, the journalists launched a sit-in programme in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall that night, demanding cases, arrests, and disciplinary action against those involved.
The university's Pro Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Abdul Alim, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Mamunur Rashid and other administration officials went to the scene. In discussions with the journalists, the administration assured them that a case would be filed.
Later, the journalists withdrew their programme around 1:15am. They said that if the case was not filed within the stipulated time, a new programme would be announced.
Meanwhile, in protest of the incident, the leaders and activists of the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall Parliament and Chhatra Shibir went to the hall principal's room and conducted a demonstration to push for several demands and discussions with the administration.
Among the journalists' demands is that the university administration file a case against those involved in the attack and ensure their arrest by noon on Monday.
They also demand that the studentship of those involved in the incident, who are currently students of the university, be cancelled and the certificates of those who have completed their studies, be cancelled.
In addition, the journalists have demanded that people who are not current students of the university be banned from entering the campus.
