Munshiganj, Mar 17 (bdndws24.com) — The death toll from Tuesday's ferry capsize in the river Meghna rose to 147 after two more bodies were found on Saturday.
Officer-in-charge of Gazaria Police Station Shahidul Islam said two more bodies were recovered on Saturday morning from Char Jhapta, about a kilometre from the accident site.
The launch, MV Shariatpur-1, carrying more than 250 passengers capsized in darkness on Tuesday after colliding with a cargo vessel.
The sunken vessel was salvaged and towed to the shore on Wednesday afternoon. By that evening, the official search was called off but scores of bodies had been recovered from waters later.
On Thursday, police filed a case over the capsize at the Gazaria Police Station accusing seven people including owners, masters, sarengs and crew of MV Shariatpur-1 and the 'unknown' cargo vessel.
Three committees have been formed, one by shipping ministry, one by BIWTA and another by the maritime transport directorate to determine the reasons of the accident.
