The incident happened around 11am at a polling station in Jessore Sadar Upazila’s Chanchrha Union.
The victim has been identified as Abdus Sattar Bishey, who according to locals was a street vendor.
Jessore’s Superintendent of Police Anisur Rahman said a clash erupted between supporters of two member candidates at the Vaturia High School centre.
“Bishey was shot in the head when the firing started. He was taken to Jessore Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead,” SP Rahman told reporters.
The hospital’s emergency unit doctor Abdullah Al Mamun said that Bishey died before he was brought in.
