Agitated garment workers have also blocked traffic on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, Banani police say

A garment worker has been killed and another has been injured in a road accident in Dhaka’s Banani.
The accident occurred at the Chairman Bari U-Turn in Banani around 6am on Monday.
A protest by their colleages has blocked the capital's Airport Road. The garment workers have also brought traffic to a halt on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway. The blockade has led to heavy congestion on nearby roads.
Sub-Inspector Jewel, duty officer at the Banani Police Station, said a garment worker had been killed on the spot and the road is now blocked.
The road has been blocked since 9am, according to Mofizul Islam, deputy commissioner of the Traffic Gulshan Division. Police are trying to divert the traffic using alternative routes.
The accident occurred at the Chairmanbari U-turn in Banani around 6am on Monday, according to the Traffic Gulshan Division’s Facebook page. It did not state what vehicles were involved in the accident.
It added that garments workers had blocked both sides of the road after the accident and also blocked traffic on the Elevated Expressway.
Vehicles at the Banani-Kakoli Crossing and the Mohakhali-Amtoli Crossing are being diverted by police due to the road blockade. Police at the scene are attempting to bring the situation under control.
