India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over four Bangladeshi nationals detained in India through a flag meeting at the Satkhira border.

Citing the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Satkhira Police Station chief Shaminul Haque said the BGB and BSF flag meeting was held at the zero line of the Taluigachha border on Tuesday evening. Following the meeting, BSF handed the four over to the BGB.

BGB then handed them over to the Sadar police later at night. They will be released to their families after scrutiny on Wednesday, said OC Shaminul.

The four Bangladeshi nationals are Md Monaem Hossain, 34, from Dhandia village in Satkhira’s Tala Upazila, Rebecca Begum, 36, from the same village, Ranirma Khatun, 25, from Ghugrakati village in Khulna’s Koyra Upazila, and a five-year-old child.

The Bangladeshis, who were staying illegally in India, tried to enter Bangladesh late at night on Monday through Gate No.3 at the Amudia border, police said, citing the BGB. The BSF then detained them.

Later, BSF informed BGB about the incident. On Tuesday evening, a flag meeting was held at the zero line, led by BSF Amudia Company Commander Inspector Bikash Kumar and BGB Taluigachha BOP Commander Naib Subedar Md Abul Kashem. After the meeting, the detainees were handed over.
