Dhaka, Nov 1 (bdnews24.com) – As Mohammedan face Abahani in premier hockey league Thursday, its prime concern is not the flying archrival but its own players.
Three key players of the club cup champions Mohammedan Sporting Club-- defender Yeamin Hossain, striker Maksudul Alam Habul and medio Mamunur Rahman Chayan -- threatened to boycott the league until their dues were paid.
Yeamin Hossain told reporters that he would not take part in the league from Thursday until he got his remaining payment of Tk 2 lakh. Habul owed Tk 2.3 lakh to the club. They received Tk 1 lakh each before Eid-ul-Fitre.
"How is it possible to continue play if the club do not clear the payment for the premier league which resumed after a break of two years," said Habul.
Yeamin said, "I am determined to boycott the play from Thursday whether the club suspend me." He said that he verbally informed the federation about it.
"The payment would be made as it is duty for the club," said Mustaqur Rahman, additional general secretary of Mohammedan.
Rahman said that the players should realise the problem as each and every club faced fund crisis. He hoped the players will play the match Thursday.
Mohammedan are now in the third position with 10 points from five matches, trailing behind joint league leaders Abahani Limited and Usha Krira Chakra who played six matches.
