Syeda Shamila Rahman, wife of Arafat Rahman Koko, has sought votes for her brother-in-law BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman at a courtyard meet-up in the capital’s Korail slum in Dhaka.
She visited the T&T Colony near Korail slum on Sunday afternoon.
Residents of the slum were overjoyed on seeing a member of late president Ziaur Rahman’s family at the courtyard huddle.
Children rushed in from different directions, and the gathering soon grew larger as Shamila listened to the residents’ concerns.
Referring to Tarique as “bhaiya” (brother), she said: “I have come here today to ask for votes for bhaiya. Please vote for bhaiya by casting your ballot for the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Bhaiya will address your problems. You must cast your votes.”
She sought prayers for Tarique, and for Sheaf of Paddy to emerge victorious in the election.
Later, she went to a church near Badda Notun Bazar, where she spoke to members of the Christian community and campaigned in favour of BNP.
Tarique is contesting in the Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies.
While he is busy with election campaigning across the country, members of his family are now joining BNP activists in campaigning in his constituencies.
