Violence erupted at Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Nitarkandi at around 9pm on Tuesday, barely 11 hours before the start of the voting.
The Bajitpur Police Station OC told bdnews24.com his force “took the situation under control on hearing about tension between the supporters of the rival candidates”.
Mostafizur Rahman said the BNP supporters caught two and handed them over to police.
But he did not name them.
Local Awami League MP Afzal Hossain alleged the BNP activists had attacked the supporters of the ruling party candidate.
Bajitpur is one of the 234 municipalities that are going for election on Wednesday.
