Mirza Fakhrul vows to end India’s “dominance” if voted to power

The BNP will prioritise ending what it calls India’s “dominance” if the party comes to power, its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.

He made the comments on Saturday after visiting a newly built rubber dam built over the Mahananda River in Chapainawabganj.

“If people vote the BNP to power, [it] will prioritise ending India’s ‘dada-giri’,” he told reporters on Saturday after visiting the rubber dam built on the Mahananda River in Chapainawabganj.

“Emphasis will also be given on dealing with matters such as the Farakka Barrage and border killings,” he said.

Speaking further about India, Fakhrul said: “India is our neighboring country. If they want, they can maintain good relations with us.”

Recalling India’s assistance in the 1971 Liberation War, he said the country should continue to support Bangladesh.

“But sadly, we have seen the opposite. The Modi government has put Bangladesh under pressure. They have taken everything away from us without giving anything in return.”

The BNP leader was in Chapainawabganj to attend a public rally held as part of the “Save the Padma, Save the Country -- Bangladesh First” campaign.

He later joined another rally at the premises of Nawabganj Government College in the afternoon.
