Bangladesh has reported six new dengue deaths and 1,948 hospital admissions from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in the last 24 hours.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest figures have taken this year’s dengue death toll to 245, with 148 deaths recorded in September alone, the highest monthly total so far this year.
The health directorate bulletin said on Tuesday that 189 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation and 210 in Dhaka South during the period.
Outside the two city corporations, 320 patients were admitted in other hospitals across Dhaka Division.
In addition, Chattogram recorded 343 new admissions, while Barishal reported 212, Khulna 248, Rajshahi 211, Mymensingh 102, Rangpur 99 and Sylhet 14.
A total of 1,882 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24-hour window.
So far this year, 79,620 people have been hospitalised with dengue, while 73,890 have recovered and been discharged.
The health directorate has kept records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. The highest number of hospitalisations was recorded in 2023, when 321,179 people were admitted and 1,705 died from the disease.
More than 400 people died from dengue last year, while around 102,000 cases were recorded.
