Bangladesh reports five more deaths with measles symptoms in a day

Another five people have died with measles symptoms over the past 24 hours, raising the nationwide death toll to 810 since Mar 15.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday said, of the total, 715 died with measles symptoms, while 95 cases were laboratory-confirmed.

Dhaka Division recorded the highest death toll with 310, followed by Sylhet with 106.

During the latest reporting period, 950 people with measles symptoms sought hospital treatment, 854 were admitted, and 187 infections were confirmed through laboratory testing.

Since Mar 15, as many as 122,150 people have sought treatment, including 104,717 admitted to hospital.

Laboratory tests have confirmed 15,194 measles cases, although the health directorate said the true caseload is likely higher because not all patients are tested.
