Three more suspected measles deaths with 907 hospitalisations in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has recorded three more deaths with measles symptoms in a 24-hour count.

The latest fatalities were reported in Dhaka, Khulna and Cumilla, while 907 people with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Measles was detected in 84 patients.

The latest figures have taken the number of people who have died with suspected measles symptoms this year to 986. Another 101 people have died after testing positive for measles.

The number of people admitted to hospitals with measles has reached 165,155, according to the health directorate.

Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths among people with suspected measles symptoms, at 444, followed by Sylhet with 173.

Rajshahi has recorded 93 such deaths, Chattogram 79, Mymensingh 78, Barishal 60, Khulna 44 and Rangpur 15.

Among the latest hospital admissions, 322 were reported in Dhaka division, followed by Chattogram with 242, Sylhet 131, Barishal 95, Mymensingh 62, Khulna 32, Rajshahi 14 and Rangpur nine.

The health directorate has been recording cases and fatalities linked to measles and its symptoms since Mar 15.

Not all patients who seek hospital treatment or remain outside hospitals are tested for measles, meaning the actual number of confirmed cases cannot be determined. Only information on patients who seek or are admitted to hospitals is recorded.
