Four more patients exhibiting these symptoms have died at the hospital in the past 24 hours.

The total death toll at the hospital since the outbreak has now hit 50.

Dr Shankar K Biswas, spokesman for RMCH, says four children with measles-like symptoms have died in the 24 hours to 11am on Thursday. Their ages range from six months to three years old.

“Over that same period, 27 new patients have been admitted and 24 have been discharged from the hospital after recovery.”

This means number of patients with measles-like symptoms is also ticking up. Shankar said special measures have been taken to tackle the situation.

“Currently, 132 people are undergoing treatment in the measles isolation ward. Of these, 12 are in the ICU. So far, the number of patients admitted to the hospital with measles symptoms is 479. Of these, 50 have died,” he said.
