Bangladesh logs six more suspected measles deaths in a day

Health authorities record another 102 positive cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh has recorded six more deaths with measles symptoms in a day, alongside 102 newly confirmed cases.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its bulletin on Tuesday that symptom-related deaths this year have reached 1,032.

Another 102 died of confirmed measles, bringing the total toll to 1,134.

Dhaka Division tops the death count with 468, with Sylhet next at 179. Rajshahi has 93, Chattogram 90, Mymensingh 80, Barishal 61, Khulna 45 and Rangpur 16.

Over the past 24 hours, 1,291 people with measles symptoms have arrived at hospitals across the country, with 1,180 admitted.

Among the new admissions, 371 are in Dhaka Division, 260 in Chattogram, 163 in Sylhet, 123 in Barishal, 111 in Khulna, 85 in Mymensingh, 38 in Rangpur and 29 in Rajshahi.

In all, 176,516 patients have been admitted, and 169,290 have recovered and gone home.

The number of patients with symptoms has reached 199,013, of whom measles has been confirmed in 21,910.

The DGHS has kept count of measles and symptom cases and deaths since Mar 15.

Not every patient who comes to hospital or stays outside is tested, so the exact number of confirmed cases is unknown. Only data on hospital arrivals and admissions is recorded.
