Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged people to visit movie theatres to watch “Mujib: The Making of Nation”, a biopic about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman directed by celebrated Indian film director Shyam Benegal.
The prime minister expressed her gratitude to India for co-producing the film, and expressed her hopes for a stronger friendship between India and Bangladesh at the movie’s premiere at Bangladesh Film Archive in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Thursday.
The actors and crew of the film joined the prime minister at the premiere. Hasina inaugurated the premiere of the Bangabandhu biopic at 10:10 am.
The film is scheduled to be released at 153 movie theatres across the country on Friday.
“I would like to thank the director, producers, actors and crew members who contributed to making the film,” Hasina said, urging people to watch the film in theatres. “You will all learn about my family and parents through this film. It tells a history that has never been told before.”
The film, made with 60 percent of its budget from Bangladesh and 40 percent from India, began shooting in Mumbai’s Film City on Jan 22 last year and ended on Dec 18 in Bangladesh.
Actor Arifin Shuvoo played the role of Bangabandhu in the film and Nusrat Imrose Tisha portrayed Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib. Actor Nusraat Faria played the role of Sheikh Hasina, while Riaz Ahmed portrayed the role of Tajuddin Ahmad.
Over 150 actors, including Dilara Zaman, Chanchal Chowdhury, Siam Ahmed, Jayed Khan, Khairul Alam Sabuj, Ferdous Ahmed, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Raisul Islam Asad, Gazi Rakayet, Tauquir Ahmed and Misha Sawdagor, are among the film’s cast.
