It would be held on Feb 24 at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, the organisers announced at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday.
This year, the lifetime achievement awards were conferred on Geetashree Sandhya Mukherjee from India and Runa Laila from Bangladesh in the first phase. The prestigious awards were presented by Faridur Reza Sagar and Mehboob Chowdhury at a program in Kolkata earlier.
The lifetime achievement award would also be given to the reputed artists of Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka, the organisers said.
They said that “Dance Sri Lanka”, the first international mega dance competition organised in Colombo last year, has become a sister component of the 8th chapter of the award. This endeavour was to recognise the talents of various genres of culture in Sri Lanka.
In addition to the lifetime achievement awards, the 8th Citycell-Channel i Music Awards will be given in 15 categories this year. They are - Tagore Songs (Rabindra Sangeet), Nazrul Songs (Nazrul Sangeet), Folk Songs, Modern Songs, Classical – Vocal, Motion Picture Sound Track, Band Music, Underground Band, Song writing, New Artist (male/female), Sound Engineering, Cover Design, Music Direction, Music Video.
For the first time, this year the songs in the CCMA Popular Choice category were judged through five Radio Stations - Radio Today, Radio Aamar, ABC Radio, Dhaka FM and Peoples Radio in five sections - Band Song, Modern Song, Film Song, Debut Singer (Male/Female) and Fusion.
Winners in these categories have been selected based on the number of votes (through SMS, online voting, emails and letters to radio stations).
The music awards were divided into three stages - primary selection, secondary selection and the final selection. The main process of the award programme started thrby seeking entries for audio cassettes, audio CDs and VCDs from individuals and production houses released in 2011.
Citycell CEO Mehboob Chowdhury, Citycell’s Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Taslim Ahmed, Faridur Reza Sagor, Managing Director of Impress Telefilms Limited (Channel i) and Channel i Program Manager and CCMA Project and Program Director Shahidul Islam Sachhu gave a detailed overview of the categories and rules of this year's contest at the briefing.
The Daily Star, Anando Alo and Saptahik are the media partners and bdnews24.com is the online partner of the 8th CCMA while the radio partners are Radio Today, Radio Aamar, ABC Radio, Dhaka FM, Peoples Radio, and Radio Bhumi.

The journey of Citycell-Channel i Music Awards had begun in 2004 with a view to promote local music and artistes.
