The government is planning to ensure students complete 10 years of schooling on time and sit for Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations without delays.

Speaking at Dhaka Residential Model College on Wednesday, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said a meeting later in the day to ensure students remain on track by covering the syllabus and streamlining exam dates.

He told students the goal was to keep SSC exams within 10 years of schooling and HSC exams within 12 years, ensuring no academic backlog delays their studies.

“We will sit together, discuss the matter and take decisions in your interest. But you will also have to take your examinations properly,” the minister said.

Milon attended a signing ceremony between Dhaka Residential College and Omera Renewable Energy Limited on the use of renewable energy.

There, he said education should become more engaging and project-based instead of relying on outdated teaching methods.

He criticised the current focus on obtaining GPA-5 scores, noting that parents are often satisfied with top grades without considering what their children have actually learnt.

"We will not talk about GPA-5; we want to know what you have learnt," the minister said, adding that the national education system requires a massive overhaul to better serve the future generation.
