Inflation in Bangladesh eased slightly to 10.89 percent in December, the final month of the year, but has remained in double digits.
This means that a basket of goods that cost Tk 100 in December 2023 cost Tk 108.90 in December 2024.
The inflation rate was at 11.38 percent in November.
But, while the rate was lower than in November, it was still higher than the 10.87 percent inflation rate in October.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, or BBS, released the updated numbers on point-to-point inflation on Monday.
The data showed that the average inflation rate for 2024 (January to December) was in double digits at 10.34 percent, up from 9.48 percent in 2023.
Both food and non-food inflation eased slightly in December compared to the previous month. Food inflation fell from 13.80 percent in November to 12.92 percent in December, while non-food inflation went down from 9.39 percent in November to 9.26 percent.
The inflation rate eased in both urban and rural areas as well. The urban inflation rate fell from 11.37 percent in November to 10.84 percent in December, while the rural inflation rate dipped from 11.53 percent to 11.09 percent.
