The High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the schedule and voter list for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors' election, clearing the way for the polls to proceed.
A bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice Md Asif Hasan passed the order on Wednesday.
According to BCB's lawyer, there is now no legal obstacle to holding the Jun 7 election.
The petitioners were represented by senior lawyer Md Hossain Lipu, alongside Azim Uddin Patwary and Md Shafiqul Islam.
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus appeared for the state, while Mahin M Rahman represented the National Sports Council (NSC) and the BCB.
Rahman said the court held the final hearing on Wednesday after a partial hearing on Tuesday and subsequently threw out the petition.
As a result, there is no longer any legal barrier to the BCB's ongoing activities or the board election, he added.
He noted that the court had also declined to intervene in three earlier writ petitions challenging the current ad-hoc committee and the election process.
On May 18, six councillors filed the petition seeking the withdrawal of notices sent to different clubs requesting nominations of councillors for the election.
The petitioners were Armanul Islam Nayan, Md Naeem Howlader, Md Enamul Ahsan, Md Abdullah Arko, Akib Javed Munna and Md Rakibul Islam, all nominated as councillors of different clubs for four-year terms.
The youth and sports secretary, NSC chairman, BCB ad-hoc committee president, chief executive, and district commissioners of Bandarban, Khulna, Lakshmipur, Faridpur, Brahmanbaria and Dhaka were named as respondents.
The petitioners later filed a supplementary application on Monday seeking a suspension of the announced election schedule and a directive to prepare a new voter list including their names.
The office of the chief election commissioner announced the BCB election schedule on May 16, and a draft voter list was published the following day.
Under the schedule, voting will be held on Jun 7. A total of 25 directors will be selected, including 23 through direct voting and two through nomination by the NSC.
The BCB president will subsequently be elected by the 25 directors.
