A Dhaka University student has been injured after jumping from the ninth floor of Santosh Bhaban at Jagannath Hall.
The incident occurred around 1am on Monday, Jagannath Hall Provost Debashish Pal told bdnews24.com.
The student, identified as Bidipta Shikto of the Department of Development Studies' 2025-26 academic session, was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Speaking about the incident, Pal said: "I have heard that he was suffering from depression, but I do not know whether that is correct.
"For now, he is receiving treatment at the medical college. Once he recovers, we will know why he did this."
Pallab Chandra Barman, vice-president of the Jagannath Hall Students' Union, said Bidipta landed on a tin roof after jumping from the building and did not sustain any injury to his head.
"The X-ray, ECG, MRI and other reports are all good. No fracture has been detected so far," he said.
