Dhaka University has relaxed its restrictions on vehicles at entry points of the campus to ensure smooth movement for visitors and buyers during the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
This change will be effective from Feb 1 to Feb 28.
The university's Public Relations Office issued a notice on Friday afternoon announcing that no barriers will be placed at entry points during this period.
The restrictions on vehicle movement at the entrances to the university have been relaxed for the Amar Ekushey Book Fair to ensure smooth access for visitors," the notice read.
Recently, the university administration installed barriers, security, and surveillance boxes at Polashi intersection, Nilkhet intersection, Central Shaheed Minar, Shahbagh, Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, High Court intersection, and Shibbari Crossing.
On weekends and public holidays, and during office hours, entry restrictions were in place for all vehicles except those with university stickers and emergency services, such as ambulances, doctors, patients, and government vehicles.
However, with the new directive, these restrictions will be lifted for the duration of the book fair.
The notice also added that the Dhaka Metropolitan Traffic Division would oversee vehicle entry and parking inside the university premises, with support from the university’s volunteer and proctorial teams.
The Bangla Academy has also urged Dhaka University to ensure smooth vehicle movement for the book fair.
The fair will open on Feb 1 in memory of the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, and this year’s theme will be "July Mass Uprising: Building a New Bangladesh”.
Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is set to inaugurate the fair at 3pm on Saturday.
