CCTV cameras will be installed in every polling booth for the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU), hall and hostel council elections.

A voter list with photographs will also be used.

Speaking at a briefing with journalists on Sunday afternoon, Chief Election Commissioner Monir Uddin said that all preparations, including ballot paper printing, have been completed ahead of Wednesday’s election.

He added that every effort is being made to ensure the election is transparent and credible.

Voting will take place from 9am to 4pm on Wednesday in the IT, Arts Faculty (New), Science, Social Science, and Business (BBA) Faculty buildings.

According to the briefing, voting will occur in approximately 700 booths spread across 60 rooms in five buildings. On average, 400 to 500 students will cast their votes in each room.

The chief election commissioner said that secret booths have been arranged so that each student can vote for 26 CUCSU positions and 14 hall-level posts.

He stated that the total ballot paper for CUCSU is 4 pages long. The ballot paper for the hall and hostel unions is one page.

Voters will cast their votes for their preferred candidates by filling in a circle.

Professor Monir said that transparent ballot boxes have been arranged so that students have no doubts.

“CCTV cameras will be installed in every polling booth. The image from the cameras will be visible outside the centre, for everyone to see. Should there be a power cut, the videos will be recorded, so that no one has any suspicion.”

He added that the deans of the faculties where voting will take place will act as returning officers for the election, and the heads of departments will be in charge of the presiding officers' duties.

The teachers will serve as assistant presiding officers, alongside university staff in the role of polling officers.
