Jet fuel prices have risen for a third straight month, pushing up the cost of aviation fuel by nearly 40 percent since July.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission raised the price for domestic flights by Tk 17.06 to Tk 182.71 a litre for October.
The new rate takes effect at midnight Wednesday.
The price has risen by Tk 51.72, or 39.5 percent, in three months from Tk 130.99 in July.
It was Tk 165.65 in September, making the latest monthly increase about 10.3 percent.
For domestic and foreign airlines operating international flights, jet fuel has been set at almost $1.19 a litre, excluding customs duties and VAT.
Jet fuel prices began rising again in August after several consecutive cuts. The price for domestic flights was reduced by Tk 19.22 to Tk 130.99 in July, then increased by Tk 28.53 in August and Tk 6.13 in September.
Despite the latest increases, the price remains below this year’s peak of Tk 227.08 a litre, reached on Apr 7 amid a surge following the West Asia war.
The October price is Tk 44.37, or 19.5 percent, below that level.
The BERC said the October price was based on the average international Platts rate from Sept 5 to Oct 4, along with the dollar exchange rate used by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation to settle letters of credit.
The regulator also considered changes in coastal tanker and tank-lorry transport costs resulting from diesel price adjustments.
