Furberg is the Senior Vice President of the Bangkok-based Telenor Digital Business.
He has held a number of positions at Telenor including Chief Financial Officer and Head of Financial Services.
The 49-year-old holds a degree in economics and business administration from the Norwegian School of Economics and is a Certified European Financial Analyst.
Effective from Nov 1, Furberg will be replacing current CEO Rajeev Sethi, who has been CEO of Grameenphone since November 2014.
A Grameenphone press release said Sethi 'will pursue new opportunities', indicating he has been fired.
But the press release did not elaborate on the replacement.
Grameenphone, a member of the Telenor Group, is Bangladesh’s largest mobile phone operator.
The Grameenphone Board of Directors will now begin a process to identify a permanent CEO, the press release said.
