Two Rohingya men have been shot dead over a 'turf war' at refugee camps in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya Upazila, police said.
They were killed in separate attacks at Block B of East Kutupalong-2 Camp and Block A of Balukhali-7 Camp early on Monday, said Sheikh Mohammad Ali, chief of Ukhiya Police Station.
The victims have been identified as Sana Ullah, 27, a resident of Balukhali-7 Camp’s Block B-2 and Ahmad Hossain, 27, a resident of the camp’s Block G.
A group of assailants fired multiple shots at Sana Ullah at Kutupalong camp around 4 am, leaving him dead on the spot. Meanwhile, the assailants fled after shooting Hossain to death at Balukhali Camp around 3 am, Ali said, citing witnesses.
Police believe the incidents occurred because various armed groups are vying for territorial dominance at the camp. Law enforcers are conducting an investigation to identify those involved in the attacks.
The bodies have been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
