Tribunal indicts five persons for 1971 war crimes in Kishoreganj

The International Crimes Tribunal has framed charges against five people for crimes against humanity in Kishoreganj during the 1971 war.

They are Shamsuddin Ahmed, Gazi Md Abdul Mannan, Nasir Uddin Ahmed alias Captain ATM Nasir, Md Hafiz Uddin and Md Azharul Islam.
Ahmed was brought to the tribunal during Monday’s hearing while the rest are absconding, Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Shimon told bdnews24.com.
The prosecution levelled seven charges against them, which include murder, abduction, torture and arson.
Charges
1. On Nov 12, 1971, eight people were murdered in Bidyanagar and Ayala villages in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj Upazila.
2. The murder of Mia Hossain at Ayala Village in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj Upazila on Nov 13.
3. Md Abdul Gafur of Karimganj Upazila was abducted on Sep 26 and later murdered.
4. On Aug 23, Md Fazlur Rahman Master of Atkaparha Village in Karimganj Upazila was abducted and taken to the Upazila rest house. He was tortured and murdered.
5. The murder of Paresh Chandra Sarkar at Ramnagar village on Sep 7.
6. Abduction, torture and murder of Kalipur Village’s Abu Bakar Siddique and ‘Rupali’.
7. Arson of 20 to 25 houses at Atkaparha Village on Sep 15.
