Sayeedee gets delicacies, Rony sees family

Death-row convict and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee had the good fortune of tasting delicacies cooked at home on the day of Eid.

Likewise, in Gazipur’s Kashimpur Jail, Awami League MP Golam Maula Rony got the chance to meet his wife and children.

Like Sayedee and Rony, the Kashimpur Jail has a few other VIP prisoners. The members of their families were also allowed to meet them on Friday.

The Jamaat number two Sayedee, convicted for war crimes committed in 1971, is lodged in Dhaka Central Jail-1 at Kashimpur.

Jail Superintendent Md Nesar Alam told bdnews24.com that Masud Bin Sayedee, the Jamaat leader’s younger son, met his father around 1pm. He had brought food for him from home.

Former State Minister for Home Affairs and BNP leader Lutfozzaman Babar, also in this jail, was met by his wife and a cousin on Friday.

In Jail-1, BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, Jamaat leaders Motiur Rahman Nizami, Md Shafikur Rahman, AKM Yusuf and Abdus Sobhan observed Eid.

Sayedee and Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) member Salauddin Salehi are among the 73 prisoners sentenced to death in a total of 884 inmates.

Rony, accused of assaulting journalists, is being held in the Kashimpur Dhaka Central Jail-2.

Jail Superintendent Subhash Chandra Das told bdnews24.com that Rony’s wife Karunnahar, son Hriday, and daughter Nandini met him in prison.

Businessman and BNP leader Tarique Rahman’s friend Giasuddin Al Mamun was visited by his wife and child. Md Arman, son of Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali, came to meet his father.

Jail-2 is also hosting Acting Editor of Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman and Jamaat leader Md Kamaruzzaman.

In this prison, 86 people, including Kamaruzzaman, have been sentenced to death. There are 1,733 inmates in all.
BNP laeder Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, convicted in the BDR mutiny case, said his Eid prayers inside the high-security prison at Kashimpur.
Anup Chetia, leader of the Indian separatist group Ulfa (United Liberation Front of Asom) is one among the 1,335 inmates of this high-security prison, which has about 500 death-row convicts.
In the Kashimpur women’s jail, 219 women and 12 children staying with their mothers took part in the Eid prayers.
