Imran was detained from Shahbagh in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon, said RAB spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan.

“He was arrested on charges of organising an illegal gathering. There are more charges against him. We are looking into the matter.”

Reazul Alam Bhuiyan, one of the protest organisers, told bdnews24.com that Imran arrived in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh at 4pm to join the scheduled programme.

“As soon as he got down from his car, RAB members picked him up,” he said.

"We don’t know his whereabouts.”

Police stopped a rally planned for Monday and said Ganajagaran Mancha had no permission to hold the protest programme.

Imran then announced a new plan to hold the demonstration at 4pm on Jun 6 at the same venue after meeting all formalities.
