“The verdict said to execute the sentence by hanging or by (shooting him) at the firing squad. We are satisfied with the verdict," Prosecutor Mohammad Ali said on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Ali was sentenced to death after he was found guilty of war crimes like killing, massacre, abduction and looting during the 1971 Liberation War.

The International Crimes Tribunal -1 Chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim delivered the verdict after five out of the six charges had been proven beyond doubt.

Ali was given the death penalty in two counts, prison until death in three and acquitted from the remaining one.

The prosecutor said the police were yet to detain Hasan Ali despite an arrest warrant.

“Hasan Ali’s target was to eliminate Hindu community during the Liberation War,” Mohammad Ali said.

The son of a local Peace Committee leader, Hasan Ali was the Razakar commander in Kishoreganj’s Tarail area, he said.
