Dhaka, April 7 (BDNEWS) - A total of 30,000 customers of Rajshahi zone would be brought under land phone network connectivity through Onetel by this year.
Authorities of the private company told BDNEWS Thursday that they have taken the initiative to provide these connections in the first phase in a bid to meet the demand of land phones in the north-western region, in the rural areas in particular.
Mahtabul Amin, manager (marketing & sales) of Onetel Communications Ltd, said that with its launching by July, the company would provide 1,80,000 connections covering the network entire approved area in the country.
He said the company would distribute 60,000 connections, in the first phase, in Rajshahi, Bogra, Rangpur, Pabna and Serajgonj districts.
He said OneTel, the private PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) operator in the country's 16 districts of the north-western zone, would invest $50 million for the total project.
Onetel would offer wireless phone solution, which would cover different facilities- caller ID, voice mail, short message service (SMS) through a wireless terminal setting up in houses.
He said the range of its subscription would be around Tk 10,000 per connection.
The call charges would be kept at a reasonable rate compared to BTTB, the official of the company said, adding that the land phone-connections would be ensured within 24 hours after receiving the application.
