Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan made WB alternate executive director

Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan has been appointed an alternate executive director to the World Bank.

A public administration ministry order on Sunday cancelled his post-retirement leave (PRL) and appointed him to the new post for the next three years.

The 1981 Bangladesh Civil Service cadre was scheduled to go on PRL from Dec 14.

The government has granted him lien from Nov 1 to Dec 14 to take up his new assignment in Washington.

Bhuiyan will succeed former finance secretary Dr Mohammad Tarek.

Born on Dec 15, 1956 in Narsinghdi, Bhuiyan was appointed the 20th Cabinet secretary on Oct 3, 2011.

He was an alternate director to the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank when he was the secretary to the Economic Relations Division.

He has also served as a secretary to the primary and mass education ministry, a planning commission member, Petrobangla chairman, besides holding other posts. 

Bhuiyan studied at Australia’s Curtin University and UK’s Birmingham University after graduating from the Dhaka University.

He has written on public administration and development management in various journals and newspapers.
