Met office forecasts heavy rains throughout Bangladesh until Sunday

The heavy rains powered by the south-west monsoon are likely to continue until Sunday, Met office has predicted.

Incessant rains have triggered landslides and caused death and destruction at Ramu in Cox's Bazar and Bandarban on Friday.
 
Many areas in Barisal, Chittagong, Chandpur, Jhenaidah and Faridpur have been submerged.
 
That has disrupted transport and damaged crops.
 
Cox's Bazar recorded the heaviest rainfall on Friday (morning to 3pm) -- 123 mm. Dhaka reported a 13 mm rainfall between morning and 3pm.
 
Meteorological Department Deputy Director SM Mahmudul Haque said heavy rains had been reported from certain areas of Bangladesh due to the monsoon. "After Saturday, that may drop."
 
Light to medium rains with gusty winds have been forecast for Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Chittagong and Sylhet.
 
Medium to very heavy rains are possible in some areas of Dhaka, Barisal, Khulna, Rajshahi and Chittagong divisions, according to the Met office.
 
Incessant rains might trigger more landslides in Chittagong division, the Met office has alerted.
 
Thousands have been marooned in foothills of Ramu, Teknaf, Chakaria, says bdnews24.com Senior Correspondent Mintu Chowdhury from Chittagong.
 
He reported that Cox's Bazar’s Kalatali, Bazarghata, Laldighi, Jhautola and some other areas had been submerged by flash floods.
