The Fulbaria bus terminal in the capital's Gulistan will be relocated to Chunkutia in Keraniganj within the next three months as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday while inspecting traffic-management improvement work at the Mohakhali terminal, he said construction had already begun on a depot on a 4.05-hectare site in the Jhilmil Residential Area at Chunkutia.

Once completed, buses currently operating from Fulbaria and Gulistan will be shifted to the new facility.

Mosleh said the relocation would follow a process similar to the ongoing transfer of services from the Mohakhali terminal to Purbachal.

Confirming the land allocation for the depot in Keraniganj’s Jhilmil housing project, he said: “The government has already given us permission, and we have started construction work on the depot there.”

An additional 75 acres will be acquired through Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) to build a permanent depot.

The DMP commissioner said plans were in place to relocate transport serving 19 southern districts to the site, including trucks and goods vehicles bound for the Badamtoli wholesale market.

“A multimodal transport hub will be established there,” Mosleh said.

“All transport, starting with buses serving the 19 southern districts, will be relocated there in phases.

“Until the permanent terminal and depot are built, we will temporarily shift the Gulistan and Fulbaria terminal operations to the 10-acre site.”
