Police have detained 54 people in connection with an attack on the car of the Chief Organiser of the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) South unit Hasnat Abdullah, who was left bloodied in the incident in Gazipur.
No complaint has yet been filed with the police over the attack as of Monday afternoon, police said.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan said, “Those from the government they [NCP] ousted [in the mass uprising] are involved in this attack. They carried out this attack to cause different problems.
“Multiple teams of police are carrying out operations to identify and arrest the assailants. So far, 54 people have been arrested. Legal action is being taken.”
A vehicle carrying Hasnat was attacked near the Chandna Intersection on Sunday evening.
DC Rabiul said Hasnat had been returning home after attending an event at the Gazipur Agricultural University. As his vehicle was stuck in traffic at Chandna, a group of men on four or five motorcycles came and attacked it.
“He was injured in the attack and the car's windows and windshield were shattered as well. Later, after acquiring details from him, Hasnat was safely brought to Dhaka,” he said.
Police had previously detained two people over the attack on Sunday.
