Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has left Italy’s capital Rome for Dhaka a day after the funeral of Pope Francis at St Peter's Square in the Vatican.
A jet carrying Yunus took off from the Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport around 01:30pm Bangladesh time on Sunday, the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported quoting his Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
Francis, who was born in Argentina, died last week at the age of 88. Soon after his departure, the Catholic Church, which has about 1.5 billion followers, began the ancient rite and ceremony of a papal farewell.
The chief advisor joined the world leaders on Saturday at the pope’s funeral at St Peter's Basilica.
Yunus and his entourage had gone to Qatar’s capital Doha on Monday to attend the Earthna Summit 2025.
After wrapping up his four-day tour of Qatar on Friday, he flew directly to Rome to pay his last respects to his old friend, Pope Francis.
