Dhaka’s District and Sessions Judges Court SM Kuddus Zaman charged the accused on Thursday.
Ten among the eleven accused were produced in the court where their pleas for exemption were rejected. The remaining accused has been absconding.
The judge set Feb 1 to start recording testimony.
Seven people were shot dead by a gang of robbers during the daylight heist at the bank in Ashulia’s Kathgora Bazar while a mob lynched one of the robbers.
Five of the deceased, including the bank’s manager, were shot dead on the spot.
The robbers while trying to flee the scene opened fire and exploded crude bombs as locals tried to surround them.
Two more succumbed to bullet wounds at Savar’s Enam Medical College and Hospital later in the evening.
Around Tk 600,000 were recovered following the resistance from the locals.
The court scheduled the indictment hearing on February 7 after taking cognisance of the charges submitted by police.
The accused are – Borhanuddin, Saiful Alamin, Babul Sardar, Mintu Pradhan, Md Jashimuddin, Abdul Baten, Mozammel Haque, Ukil Hasan, Mahfuzul Islam, Shajahan Jomadder.
Palash aka Soheil Rana is on the run. All except Babul Sardar, Mintu Pradhan, Ukil Hasan and Shajahan Jomadder are members of banned militant outfit Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Police said Mahfuzul Islam is a top leader of Ansarullah Bangla Team, also a banned terror outfit.
Mahfuzul Islam acted as the ‘operation commander’ during the robbery, Dhaka District Assistant Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan Firoz had said after arresting him from Dhaka’s Badda area in May last year.
Seven among them gave confessional testimonies during the investigation.
