Ex-DMP commissioner Golam Faruq turned away at Dhaka airport

He was planning to fly out to Thailand but was unable to clear immigration

Airport officials have reportedly stopped Khandker Golam Faruq, the former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, from flying out to Thailand.

Immigration officials at Shahjalal International Airport turned him away around 2:30am on Sunday.

"Faruq arrived at immigration to travel abroad, but his immigration process was not completed. He was detained and then sent back,” said an immigration officer, who asked to remain anonymous.

According to an airport source, Faruq arrived at the airport on Saturday night to board a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok but was unable to immigration.

Faruq began his career in the Bangladesh Police in 1991 as an assistant superintendent from the 12th BCS (Police) cadre.

He became the 35th commissioner of DMP on Oct 29, 2022, before retiring on Sept 30, 2023.
