Grameen Bank has claimed that a dispute at its Jhitka branch in Manikganj’s Harirampur has been resolved following allegations of misconduct involving a senior official.
In a viral video circulating on social media, a bank official can be seen getting into an argument with a customer after he addressed the bank manager as 'brother'.
It was later found out that the bank manager in the video was Abul Kalam Azad, the second manager of the bank.
Subrata Sannyasi, a political science graduate and the son of a sweet shop owner in Jhitka Bazaar, visited the bank on Wednesday when the incident occurred.
The bank’s Manager Adwaita Kumar Mridha said: “The matter regarding the unfortunate incident with the customer has been resolved with the involvement of two departmental heads, a zonal head, and an area head of Grameen Bank.”
Subrata said the Second Manager Azad had apologised for the incident.
In the video, Subrata asks the manager, “Is it wrong to address you as 'brother' with respect? Can't I call you 'brother'? Do I have to call you ‘sir’?”
Azad said, “You must say ‘sir’. Everyone must call Grameen Bank officials ‘sir’. That is the rule.”
The argument intensifies when Azad points a finger at Subrata and warns him to speak carefully.
When Subrata asked Azad to lower his finger, the official became aggressive and forced him out of the bank, attempting to take his phone.
