The deceased ‘Shafin’ was accused in five cases and was awarded death sentence in a murder case. He had been fugitive for the last five years, said Joypurhat-based RAB-5 chief Major Hasan Arafat.
The elite police unit raided a village near the town around 3am on Wednesday on a tip-off of a secret meeting of criminals.
“Shafin and his other accomplices opened fire forcing RAB to retaliate. Shafin was found dead on spot afterwards” he said.
A loaded pistol was recovered from the spot, said the RAB commander.
