Diaz was the central committee leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League’s student wing.
His second autopsy was performed at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said Humayun Kabir, assistant police superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Department or CID for the Chittagong region.
“We are yet to receive the autopsy report. But the forensic examiner has told me that he was suffocated to death,” he said.
Dr Sohel Mahmud, who heads the forensic medicine department at the hospital, refused to comment on Diaz’s report.
“The CID took the report from us this Thursday,” he told bdnews24.com.
The first autopsy conducted at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital had described his death as a suicide on Nov 23.
But the family and followers of the Chhatra League assistant secretary claimed he was murdered by his political rivals for control over the university tenders.
Diaz had also been the vice-president of Chhatra League’s Chittagong University chapter.
Diaz’s mother rejected the report of his first autopsy and filed a case accusing ten people including Chittagong University Assistant Proctor Anwar Hossain Chowdhury.
His body was then exhumed after a court ordered a re-examination. Forensic doctors had earlier told reporters about finding wounds on Diaz’s body.
