They say Diyaz's ‘murderers’ are still free.
"Since my brother was murdered , we have been consistently victimised," said Diyaz’s sister Zubaida Sarwar Chowdhury.
The body of the 27-year-old assistant secretary of BCL’s central committee at Chittagong University was found hanging in his home on Nov 20. Police suspected suicide, but the family insist Diyaz was murdered.
Diyaz's BCL loyalists, including Chittagong University BCL Vice President Md Mamun, also maintained that he was murdered and the hanging was to give it the appearance of a suicide.
On Monday night police arrested Mamun from the CU’s Abdur Rab Hall for involvement in clashes at the university last year.
Zubaida told bdnews24.com, “Police have arrested Mamun and are looking for Nazim and Toha. But they are yet to arrest the vandals who attacked our home. They have not arrested any suspects in my brother’s murder case either. Instead, they have arrested those calling for justice for his murder.”
“We have lost our brother, but we feel we are still being victimised.”
The first autopsy conducted on Diyaz’s body concluded it was a case of ‘suicide’.
After the family rejected the autopsy, the court ordered a second one, which found signs of injury.
The family filed the murder case, implicating the university’s Assistant Proctor Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, the university’s BCL President Alamgir Tipu and eight others.
They claim that Diyaz was murdered by Tipu and his supporters because of a dispute over a Tk 950 million construction project on the Chittagong University campus.
