Cultural Affairs Advisor and filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has been flown to Dhaka by helicopter after suddenly falling ill in Cox’s Bazar.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin told bdnews24.com that Farooki began experiencing abdominal pain in the evening. Doctors later examined him.

“We spoke with his family, and at 10:40pm the helicopter left for Dhaka,” Salahuddin said.

Cox’s Bazar police spokesperson Additional Superintendent Md Jashim Uddin Chowdhury said: “The advisor returned to Dhaka due to health issues. As this was an official visit, we provided him with the required protocol.”

He added that Farooki had been staying at the Ocean Paradise Hotel in the town. From there he was taken by an ambulance to Cox’s Bazar airport.

According to the district administration, the advisor had arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Friday afternoon on a four-day official tour.

By Saturday afternoon he had attended several programmes before his condition deteriorated.
